The River Restoration Centre (RRC) is looking for someone who wants to make a real difference in the field of river restoration, working with natural processes and habitat enhancement, working in the UK and Ireland at the interface between practice, science and policy.

We are looking for an experienced individual to manage and deliver independent technical specialist advice, and a training programme to a broad range of statutory agency, public, private and third sector organisations.   We work to ensure UK river restoration programmes and projects are planned, implemented and evaluated with a high degree of technical confidence and rigor, and are implemented by practitioners trained to a high degree of understanding and competency.  The position will involve travel to locations across the UK, Ireland, and occasionally abroad. You will also work on the RRC’s other activities developing guidance and communicating best practice, applying for grants, supporting project bids and developing practical decision support tools for river restoration.

You will provide expert advice and guidance. This will include delivery of assessments, planning options and scoping potential projects, supporting research, authoring guidance documents and evaluating restoration success. The role also encompasses the design and delivery of training courses and the coordination of an international river restoration science conference.

RRC is an independent, not-for-profit information and advisory centre, supporting all aspects of river restoration, habitat enhancement and best practice river and catchment management. Our office is based at Cranfield University in Bedfordshire and we are funded through the UK environmental agency agreements, project work and our programme of events.

You will have a relevant postgraduate qualification (such as physical geography, geomorphology or similar) and a comprehensive understanding of river processes, river management and restoration. You will have developed and delivered training courses and workshops, and understand the differing needs of public, private, third-sector and local volunteer groups.  You will have the ability to write complex technical and/or scientific reports as well as simple non-technical summaries and guidance tailored to a specific audience or for broad appeal.

You will be able to quickly integrate into a small busy team of highly motivated individuals sharing common purpose and values: understanding river form and function, restoring natural processes, communicating evidence-based knowledge and sharing best practice.
