We are seeking a Process Excellence Manager to advance the School of Medicine’s transition to a continuous improvement organization by empowering innovation in every person, every day.

Duties include:

  • Work with the Director of Process Excellence to develop process improvement techniques and methods for use in SoM departments. Coach SoM departments in the use of the techniques and methods.
  • Teach, coach, and enable SoM departments of different sizes and functions (e.g., HR, IT, and Finance) to evaluate their operations for opportunities to improve efficiency and quality. Examples of past project areas include grants and contract management and the IT service desk.
  • Nurture relationships with SoM departments undergoing process improvement efforts. Using in-depth working knowledge of specific improvement methodologies, oversee and coach departments through improvement launches, from pre- to post-launch and follow-up.
  • Help develop and enable goal deployment across multiple departments.
  • Assist the Director of Process Excellence to develop and create coursework and materials for in-person process improvement courses. Deliver and teach the process improvement courses.
  • Help create and execute an ongoing communication plan to share information about lean and process excellence activities. This may include writing case studies for our internal website and email campaigns for training sessions.
  • Coordinate site visits to SoM departments and external partners to share lean and process excellence initiatives and learnings.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Business, or other related field and three or more years of progressively responsible, relevant process improvement experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Sound working knowledge and experience using and applying process improvement best practices and developing teams and leaders through frequent coaching.
  • Demonstrated experience modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work with little or no direction in environments resistant to change or unable to change quickly.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate and present appropriately at all levels of the organization through written and verbal methods.
  • Excellent influence management skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple, distributed, silo’d, functional groups.
  • Strong enterprise-wide vision, seeing the big picture, recognizing critical details and dealing with ambiguity.
  • Aptitude for understanding organization operations and culture.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and software applications involving dynamic models and process flows.
  • Proven ability to effectively facilitate a training session, one on one, or with a group.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, use a telephone, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh up to 20 lbs., write by hand.
  • Rarely reach or work above shoulders, kneel/crawl, climb, twist, bend, stoop and squat, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork, operate foot and or hand controls, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh up to 21 to 40 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel locally, around campus.
  • Occasionally work evenings/weekends.
  • Occasional travel for training.
