Job description

You will support the development, implementation and analysis of qualitative research projects conducted in the area of diet, food choice and obesity across the Island of Ireland.   

It will involve qualitative research, including conducting focus groups and interviews in both NI and ROI. You will also be expected to assist in administrative tasks and data processing, data analysis and results dissemination. The studies are funded by Safefood.  

The School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences has over 560 staff and over 2000 students.

The University has invested more than GBP 100 million in research and teaching infrastructure across the Health Sciences and Royal Victoria Hospital Campuses, and will invest a further GBP 350m in buildings and facilities across the University over the next ten years to support the University's Vision 2020.

The Centre for Public (CPH) Health is based within three buildings on Royal Victoria Hospital Site and is one of three research Centres in the School of Medicine Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. 

CPH is committed to identifying the epidemiological and genetic risk factors that are important for the health of the individual and of the population and to develop screening and interventions to reduce the burden of chronic diseases in the future. Thus advancing the health of the public at a regional, national and international level, by increasing knowledge and influencing clinical and public health practice and policy.

This is a fixed term contract until 31 October 2020 

The successful candidate must have: 

  • First or upper second class honours degree or equivalent in Psychology, Nutrition/Dietetics, Public Health or closely related discipline.
  • At least 6 months continuous and recent experience working in one of the following fields (or a closely related field): clinical nutrition, public health nutrition, maternal health, behaviour change.  
  • Experience working directly with research participants.  
  • Experience of using qualitative research methods within a research study. 
  • Experience analysing qualitative research data e.g. using thematic analysis.
