We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (or equivalent) with relevant research / industry experience to work on a Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), Seafood Innovation Fund (SIF) funded project in the University of the West of Scotland on the ‘The clinical significance of blood biochemical parameters as a rapid diagnostic indicator of health status in salmonid aquaculture’. 

The successful candidate will be educated to PhD level and can demonstrable experience in algorithms development and implementation, have experience with artificial intelligence, big data and vision processing, with considerable experience with machine learning techniques. The position will involve working closely with biologists undertaking original research on the expression of clinical chemistry biomarkers in fish serum, on the collection, storage, retrieval, manipulation and modelling of fish clinical chemistry data for analysis, visualisation and fish health prediction. This research shall aid in the development and commercialisation (under the Scottish Enterprise High Growth Spinout Programme (HGSP)) of a novel diagnostic approach to fish health in aquaculture.  

The research will be carried out within the multidisciplinary Aquaculture Health Laboratory in the UWS School of Health and Life Sciences (Paisley campus) in collaboration with industry participants, supported by colleagues in the School of Computer, Engineering and Physical Sciences. The post holder will be joining a team of academic staff, the HGSP project management group and experts from industry working in this area.
