Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) provides a Centre of Excellence for the application of science and technology to law enforcement particularly through niche areas of forensic science.  We offer a suite of highly successful forensic postgraduate degrees and short courses.  Research and development underpins the educational activity of the CFI.

The role holder will have some specialty in archaeological science, probably in the analysis of materials, either organic or inorganic.  This role requires you to be responsible for the development and delivery of research and high-quality teaching at postgraduate level within CFI, as well as being actively involved in the promotion, development, management and delivery of the MSc courses.  Specifically:

  • Continued production of high impact research, particularly in the integration of archaeology into new or existing science strengths within the department.
  • Delivery of some archaeology elements of existing modules.
  • Developing input into one or more new archaeology degrees or modules.
  • Development of new specialist elective modules and short courses.

You will have a PhD (or nearing completion) in a relevant academic subject and experience of relevant research within an academic or other environment with a record of high value peer reviewed publications.

You will have gained appropriate experience for this post through either an academic role, specialising in archaeological science and/or as a practitioner in a museum, archaeological unit or other relevant institution.

In return, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key position, and to be at the forefront of world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.

At Cranfield we value Diversity and Inclusion, and aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together harmoniously with dignity and respect and realise their full potential.

Our equal opportunities and diversity monitoring has shown that that women and minority ethnic groups are currently underrepresented within the university and so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from these groups.

We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role.  To find out more, please visit https://www.cranfield.ac.uk/about/working-at-cranfield/diversity.

For an informal discussion, please contact Professor Andrew Shortland on (T) (0)1793 785028 or (E) a.shortland@cranfield.ac.uk.

This role will be located at Cranfield, Bedfordshire with a requirement to also occasionally teach at Shrivenham, Oxfordshire.

Interviews will be held 23 March 2020.
