Applications are invited for the post of Mental Health Adviser / Specialist Mentor in the Disability & Dyslexia Services Department.

Duties and responsibilities 

As a Mental Health Adviser you will provide specialist advice, guidance and information to students with mental health difficulties; contributing to student retention and attainment through the delivery of services that support students’ emotional and psychological wellbeing. The post holder will also provide specialist mentoring support to students in receipt of Disabled Students’ Allowance.

You will advise on the range of reasonable adjustments and support available within the University and communicate students’ needs to academic departments and professional services.

Skills and experience

  • Professional qualification which provides membership (or eligibility for membership) for at least one of the DSA-QAG mandatory qualifications for Specialist Mentor (Mental Health).
  • Knowledge of the mental health and support needs of students and/or young people (16-25 years old).
  • Experience of developing and delivering presentations and workshops on mental health topics.
  • Experience managing a caseload and maintaining confidential notes in line with data protection legislation.
  • Have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills.
  • Be able to work flexibly to support students’ needs.
