Position Focus:

Reporting to the University Director, Corporate Strategy & Engagement, the Communications Associate serves as a member of the team responsible for the development of a new communications strategy for the Corporate Strategy & Engagement Office (CSEO). This position will provide project management for the new Corporate Strategy website including some or all of the following: collecting Yale stories, examples, sound bites, videos and press on recent corporate partnerships; maintaining the project management plan, coordinating meetings with vendor and vice provost for research office for corporate pages, and tracking progress; conducting bench-marking of peer and other best-in-class corporate relations web pages; and working with vendor and Yale communications colleagues to draft copy. The position will develop new collateral for the office, including both internal and external pieces. This may include collateral to describe specific projects and ‘ways to work with’ the office; to highlight university science priorities for a corporate audience; and to support faculty events, training, etc. This person will also work closely with the CSEO Program Coordinator to develop specific collateral for site visits.
 
A successful candidate will be familiar with both academic and corporate audiences and have the ability to convey complicated science concepts and experimental work to a lay audience.

Essential Duties

1. Drafts, formats, proofreads, and edits written materials.
2. Conducts background research and interviews subject-matter experts as well as students, professors, donors and other individuals to provide content for publications.
3. Proactively researches and suggests content to support and reinforce the University’s fundraising goals.
4. Coordinates the production of publications and other communications.
5. Manage writing projects.
6. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and three years of experience writing and editing in a professional setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated exceptional written communications skills. Science writing samples required. The ability to write clearly and elegantly, concisely, quickly, and effectively is essential, as is the ability to adapt writing style to a variety of audiences and publications.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to prioritize work, juggle multiple tasks, meet deadlines in a time-constrained environment, and work effectively with staff across the university, including administrators and faculty.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

A sense of graphic design and multiple communications collateral platforms including print and web-based mediums..

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated organizational and research abilities, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Familiarity with Yale. Experience working with industry, particularly in a scientific or technical environment, and experience writing on science-related topics.
