Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Property & Facilities Department as the Head of Estates based at our Sighthill Campus with travel throughout the University Estate, on a full time, permanent basis.

The Property & Facilities Department delivers an excellent customer experience to over 1,500 staff and nearly 19,000 students.  The Department's focus is on managing the University's key facilities, including Estates and Buildings, Energy and Sustainability, Security, Cleaning, Logistics, Print and Document Services, Sports Centre, Catering, Conference and Events and Student Accommodation. This is an exciting opportunity to lead part of a Department who are at the heart of the university.

The role

This is a newly created role, reporting directly to the Director of Property & Facilities. As Head of Estates, you will be responsible for the transformation of the maintenance and capital operations, with a focus on modernising the processes and procedures in the service. You will focus on the strategic planning of systems and processes and delivering an excellent customer service, as well as having responsibility for the compliance with Health and Safety and all legislative and statutory requirements for the Estate, developing a resilient service to support the University Strategy.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with an open and collaborative style of management, the ability to listen with the confidence to reach decisions, negotiate and determine a clear way forward with both internal and external stakeholders. You will have a proven track record of leading, supporting and building a team who will deliver an excellent, resilient maintenance and projects services.

You will have extensive, demonstrable experience of managing and controlling substantial budgets together with a detailed understanding of financial management systems and delivery of maintenance and capital programmes.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Considerable senior leadership and management experience
  • Dynamic and effective leadership skills including exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Membership of a professional body / Degree in a construction related discipline 

Desirable attributes: 

  • Experience of Higher Education Estates IS systems
  • Significant Successful experience of delivery maintenance and capital projects including contracts, appointments and terms and conditions

Salary: Grade 8 GBP 64,603.00 - GBP 73,630.00 per annum
