The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.4 billion.  

SCHOOL OF NURSING

Assistant Professor in Cancer Nursing (Ref. 20021002)

Established in 1977, the School of Nursing supports the mission of the University by nurturing graduates who are critical thinkers, effective communicators, innovative problem solvers, lifelong learners and ethical leaders.  It ranks 31st for the best School of Nursing internationally (QS Ranking 2019).  The education, research, consultancy and integrative health services are driven by a commitment to improve health of the community.  The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated the School as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Community Health Services since December 2007.  The School is offering a full range of nursing programmes including Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degree levels, with a total student population of about 2,000.  Currently, it has a total of around 80 full-time faculty members.  It is renowned for its research in Gerontological Nursing, Family and Community Health, Mental Health, Transitional Care and Integrative Digital Health.  Due to continuous success and increase in the number of students in postgraduate programmes and research centres of the School, there are several openings for qualified health professionals to join this dynamic and leading School of Nursing in Asia.  For more information about the University and the School of Nursing, please visit the websites http://www.polyu.edu.hk and http://sn.polyu.edu.hk/en/home.  

General Nursing in the School includes the following specialties:-

  • Community Care
  • Disaster Nursing Management
  • Emergency / Critical Care Nursing
  • Gerontological Nursing
  • Health Innovation and Technology
  • Infection Control
  • Supportive and Palliative Care
  • Surgical Nursing 

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a)    teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervise student projects and theses;

(b)    conduct research that leads to publications in refereed journals and award of research grants;

(c)    engage in applied research, creative development and consultancy projects in relation to health care related activities; 

(d)    provide academic leadership in teaching and research related activities;

(e)    contribute to departmental activities and management;
 
(f)    render professional service to the community and support activities that promote or foster links with the profession in the industry and/or in the community; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Nursing or relevant disciplines with several years of relevant experience;

(b)    professional qualifications registrable with The Nursing Council of Hong Kong;

(c)    a valid practising certificate issued by The Nursing Council of Hong Kong;

(d)    a substantial record and reputation as an accomplished teacher with significant contribution to curriculum development/review or teaching and learning processes; 

(e)    an established track record in research and scholarship, including refereed publications, external grants and postgraduate supervision; and

(f)    demonstrated academic management and leadership capabilities.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
