Research Assistant Professor in Hydraulic Engineering (Ref. 20021103)

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high reputation in conducting world class research and has well established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong.

It offers academic programmes at various levels.  In addition to PhD and MSc programmes, the Department currently offers 4 undergraduate programmes, namely BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, BEng (Hons) in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development, BEng (Hons) in Structural and Fire Safety Engineering and BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health. The Department currently has about 47 faculty members and 35 technical and administrative personnel, and is committed to international standards of excellence in teaching and research. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct research in the area of hydraulic engineering and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator; 

(b)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level; 

(c)    contribute to departmental service; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a doctoral degree in Hydraulics or a related discipline;

(b)    have a good record of research publications and scholarship in the area of hydraulic engineering and/or fluid mechanics;

(c)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(d)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(e)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

 

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Appointment will only be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
