Applications are invited for the post of Creative Technology Researcher to join StoryFutures Academy: the National Centre for Immersive Storytelling, based at Royal Holloway’s new Centre for Digital Creativity. Funded by the UK’s industrial strategy challenge fund, StoryFutures Academy delivers cutting-edge creative training and research programmes to ensure the UK creative workforce is the most skilled in the world in the use of VR, AR and MR.

The role of Creative Technology Researcher is to provide detailed and clear understandings of the possibilities of new immersive technologies for a diverse array of creative practitioners, from film directors to television producers, games designers to theatre. You will support our R&D and training productions by giving hands on support to create new immersive experiences. This is a research-driven role, with an opportunity to deliver research in a fast-paced hands-on environment with some of the world’s leading creatives. The postholder will form part of the StoryFutures/Academy research team working to better understand audience behaviours in immersive, working closely with psychologists and sociologists specifically focusing on audience reaction to the application of new sensory experiences in immersive.

The post holder will have at least 3 years’ experience in software development, or be qualified to PhD level (or near completion). They will have an understanding of creative immersive and enjoy interfacing with electronics (as done at hackathons). Practical experience of working with/within the creative industries, and an interest in sound would be an advantage. The postholder is expected to be flexible and efficient with excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with academic, industrial and Governmental partners.

This is a full-time post, available from 1 April 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter for a maximum of 17 months. The post is based at Royal Holloway in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London. The successful applicant will spend significant time liaising face-to-face with industry partners across the country. An attractive relocation package is available.
