Position Focus:

The Assistant Director of Training and Development in the Yale Cancer Center, Clinical Trials Office (CTO) researches, develops, validates, revises, organizes, initiates and implements intensive clinical trial educational curriculum and ongoing in-service education

As a member of the CTO management team this individual is responsible for the design, coordination and application of onboarding and continuing clinical trial education/training for faculty and staff. The curriculum targets each role in the CTO as it relates to regulatory compliance, patient safety and data integrity. In addition this position assists with standardized orientation and onboarding in the CRSL as assigned.

Reporting to the YCC Director, Clinical Trials Office, this position utilizes their strong knowledge of clinical research and associated federal and state regulations to develop processes, strategies and initiatives to meet the intensive onboarding, orientation and training needs of the CTO. In addition, this position works collaboratively with other key stakeholders to integrate ongoing education of new processes and system utilization as related to clinical trial implementation and Yale Medicine's Learning & Development to have a seamless onboarding and orientation to the Clinical Enterprise.

Essential Duties

  1. Develops, implements and evaluates current employee development programs in place for the Clinical Trials Office. Identifies and recommends opportunities to improve and align systems and works to prepare and enhance staff for the organizational growth needs of the department, supporting the mission of the Yale Cancer Center.
  2. Reviews and continually assesses the full range of orientation and onboarding offerings, ensuring that new staff have an effective introduction to the work of the CTO and the University. Tailors programs so that they complement role-specific onboarding.
  3. Conducts needs assessments to identify gaps in current training programs and processes to drive training initiatives and best in class industry learning opportunities. Develops, executes and maintains proactive training programs that challenge and energize employees while strengthening the service levels.
  4. Provides leadership and direction in achieving and sustaining a high-performance/high-commitment work force. Leads employee engagement initiatives. Provides consulting to CTO Managers regarding team and professional development of staff.
  5. Collaborates with CTO management to review current work processes, role responsibilities, and works with Human Resources to update job descriptions to maintain consistency among Clinical Trials Office positions.
  6. Plans, creates and facilitates programs with respect to all employee meetings and quarterly meetings.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Thorough understanding of Clinical Research Trial phases and the regulatory, administrative and operational functions necessary to support the trials throughout its life cycle.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability to identify training needs and develop and launch the training using Clinical Research Trials content knowledge.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven ability to be extremely organized, detailed orientated and a strong communicator. 

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to collaborate and communicate with many different individuals and entities both internally and externally to Yale.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to have extreme flexibility in work focus and multitasking abilities.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Nursing Education preferred. Basic oncology experience strongly preferred. Previous training or precepting experience in a Clinical Research trials setting.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:

SoCRA or ACRP certification recommended at hiring. Same certification required within two year of role employment.
