Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Reader in the Department of Physics, in the areas of Astronomy and/or Astrophysics.

We would particularly welcome applications establishing a new direction in our research programme. In this context, significant new laboratory space will be allocated to support this initiative and we envision growing the new research area with additional faculty appointments over the next 5 years.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics or a closely related field, and have significant research experience and a record of high quality research. The post holder will be expected to initiate a new research group in line with the Department’s strategy to expand our activities in Astronomy and Particle Astrophysics. The post holder will be expected to teach and supervise at undergraduate and postgraduate level with responsibility for the design, management and delivery of their teaching.  They will also participate in departmental administration as requested by the Head of Department.

RHUL is one of the four major centres of teaching and research in the University of London, situated on a lovely campus in Egham close to Heathrow Airport and Windsor Great Park, within commuting distance of London. The research of the Physics Department is supported by GRID computing facilities, the SuperFab nanofabrication facility, the London Low Temperature Laboratory and the John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science, with collaborations at CERN, SNOLAB, SURF, LNGS, J-PARC, CLIC, KEK, ESS and the Diamond Light Source, and in the SEPnet and the NExT Institute for Particle Phenomenology research networks. The RHUL Particle Physics group is active in Particle Astrophysics, in direct dark matter detection experiments and particle phenomenology. Further details can be found here.
