Research Associate in Statistical Science

Job number  ACAD104416

Division/School  School of Mathematics
Contract type  Open Ended
Working pattern  Full time
Salary  £33,797 - £38,017 per annum
Closing date for applications  01-Mar-2020

The University of Bristol seeks outstanding candidates for a Research Associate in Statistics, position tenable from 01 April 2020 or a date to be agreed, for a duration of maximum 3 years. The successful candidate will become a member of the Institute for Statistical Science within the School of Mathematics in Bristol, and will work with Dr Haeran Cho.

This post is funded by the Leverhulme Research Project Grant “New Challenges in Change-point Problems”: There has been a surge of interest in efficient methods for detecting whether there are changes in some stochastic properties of the data observed over time and, if so, estimating their locations. Detecting and locating such change-points provides flexibility to statistical models and insights into the data generating mechanism. This proposal identifies important and timely problems in statistical change-point analysis and aims at delivering methodologies that balance between simplistic assumptions necessary for rigorous theoretical analysis, and the complexity of modern datasets.

This job requires the expertise of a PhD graduate in Statistical Science to conduct research in projects on the analysis of high-dimensional time series with particular focus on change-point problems. The successful candidate will be lined managed by Dr Haeran Cho, but also benefit from interacting with the members of the Institute for Statistical Science.

The School of Mathematics is firmly committed to career development. The University runs a number of valuable staff development courses that could be undertaken in consultation with Dr Cho.
