About the faculty

In the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, research and teaching spans areas as diverse as criminal justice, education and sociology, languages and applied linguistics, area studies, history, politics and literature. Teaching is informed by a rich body of research, along with a strong focus on preparing students for their future careers. Academic staff get support to develop partnerships and consultancy activities with public and private enterprise. 

Key aspects of the roles

  • Report to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor on faculty business, and the Vice-Chancellor for cross-University strategic initiatives 
  • Provide inspirational academic leadership and management for your faculty, building on the University’s reputation and setting strategic goals
  • Ensure exceptional quality is maintained across all teaching and research activities
  • As a member of the University’s leadership team, contribute to a range of cross-institutional matters, to help achieve its ambitious vision 

About you

An ambitious and inspirational academic of professorial standing, you’ll bring to the role a track record of leading and managing both academic and professional services. Naturally, you will be expected to have a background aligned with the faculty’s academic disciplines, together with a commitment to the University’s vision and values. You will demonstrate the passion and ability to deliver an ambitious strategy through collaborative and engaging leadership, fostering a vibrant and collegiate culture across the faculty.
