Who are we?

We are the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS), the Australian Government’s key independent research body and advisor in the area of family wellbeing, based in the Melbourne CBD.

The Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies (LLS) team is a leading national authority in managing longitudinal studies. LLS manages a range of projects, including the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children,the Australian Longitudinal Study on Male Health, Building a New Life in Australia, and the Australian Temperament Project. These are long-running, internationally renowned studies which – through journal articles, summaries, radio, television and social media – continually inform national policy and public discourse.

About the role

The Senior Manager, Research and Analysis is an exciting opportunity to support the Executive Manager, LLS in leading a team of professional researchers to deliver results in a changing landscape.The role is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of research activities across the key national longitudinal studies.

You will develop the LLS research agenda and manage a dedicated team of researchers who analyse longitudinal survey data as well as cross-sectional and panel administrative data. You have in-depth experience in one or more topic areas relevant to our work, such as health and wellbeing across the lifespan, and family relationships and formation. You also have a genuine interest in engaging in policy-relevant research and in disseminating this research to a broad range of audiences.

You ensure continuity of service across LSS and liaise with relevant bodies and associations. You strive to stretch and grow yourself and others and provide mentoring to others to help them learn and develop everyday.

As a senior manager you will be a role model for the Institute’s values and APS Values and demonstrate leadership and collaboration with our stakeholders, partners and all AIFS staff.

The Senior Manager, Research and Analysis position will be offered on a non-ongoing basis for a period of 18 months (with the possibility of extension for a period of up to three years) on a full-time or part-time basis (0.8FTE minimum). The position is at EL2 with a salary range of $116,211 to $133,961 per annum (full-time equivalent).
