The Role

Outstanding applicants are sought for the post of Post Doctoral Research Associate who will carry out high-quality research leading to the development of experimental and numerical techniques for the analysis of unsaturated expansive soils. This work aims to understand the hydrometeorological impacts on existing and future infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
* Perform high-quality research in the bespoke research project under the guidance of the supervisory team (Dr Ashraf Osman and Professor David Toll).
* Meet the members of the supervisory team on a regular basis.
* Write up the results of the research activity and present research papers and publications at meetings and conferences, as advised by the supervisors.
* Widen personal knowledge in the research area and undertake complementary training.
* Use initiative and creativity to deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines by discussing with the supervisory team.
* Plan and manage own research activity, research resources in collaboration with others and contribute to the planning of research projects.
* Liaise with research colleagues and make internal and external contacts to develop knowledge and understanding to form relationships for future research collaboration.
* Assist with the development of research objectives and proposals.
* Conduct individual and collaborative research projects under the direction of the supervisory team.
* To deliver training in research techniques / approaches to peers, visitors and students as appropriate.
* Contribute to fostering a collegial and respectful working environment which is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect.
* Engage in wider citizenship to support the department and wider discipline.
* To engage in continuing professional development as appropriate to the role.

This post is fixed term for up to 7 months and the funding for this post is available until 31 October 2020. The post-holder is expected to contribute to a programme of research led by Dr Osman. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, including the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols. They will also be encouraged and supported to develop and execute their own research project ideas within the general confines of the supervised research programme.
