The King’s College London British Heart Foundation Centre of Research hosted by the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences provides an outstanding multi-disciplinary environment for the pursuit of cutting-edge cardiovascular research (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/scms/bhf-centre; https://www.kcl.ac.uk/scms). The BHF Centre has an excellent range of core facilities and expertise, including state-of-the-art high-throughput screening, multimodality in vivo imaging, proteomics, biophysics and structural biology. The overall focus of the Centre is the area of heart failure.

Applications are invited for Research Career Establishment Fellowships in Cardiovascular Sciences.

The Career Establishment Fellowship is a tenure-track scheme in which up to 2 years’ initial funding is provided to cover salary and research support costs. During this time, the Fellow is expected to develop and submit a competitive application for an externally-funded Personal Fellowship (e.g. BHF or MRC Intermediate Fellowship). Success and high performance in such a Fellowship is a robust route to a tenured university position. The ideal candidate for the Career Establishment Fellowship will be a highly talented early-career scientist seeking to develop an independent research career within a stimulating and supportive environment. The successful candidate should have a strong, established track record and expertise in an area of cardiovascular research that aligns with the overall focus of the BHF Centre - as evidenced by high quality first or senior author publications. An outline of a potential external Fellowship application will be required as part of the selection process.

Appointees made at Grade 7 will hold the title of ‘Research Fellow holding a Career Establishment Fellowship in Cardiovascular Sciences’

The Research Career Establishment Fellowships will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 2 years or until 31 May 2022.

The selection process will include a panel interview, a presentation and an outline proposal consisting of 2 A4 pages.
