Applications are invited for the role of Research Associate in the School of Physics, University of Bristol, to contribute to the development and characterization of TRISO particles and/or compacts (either graphite or SiC matrix). This project is a 12-month contract funded by BEIS and the UK National Nuclear Laboratory. There is a possibility to extend the contract beyond 12 month.

Applicants should have postgraduate (PhD) experience in Materials Science, Physics, Engineering or a related field. This position requires expertise or interest in the characterisation of the microstructure, residual stresses in the TRISO coatings, and the high temperature deformation and fracture behaviour that is similar to the service or accident conditions.

Candidates with relevant experience in SiC, graphite/carbon and advanced spectroscopy, microscopy and tomography will be considered with priority.

As this is project involves multiple international research partners, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are preferred. You will be working with a PhD student side by side and will be interacting with a few other PhD and Master students during the project therefore a good management capability will be of benefit.
