FINANCIAL COORDINATOR, Materials Research Laboratory, to join an interdisciplinary research laboratory that administrates federal, industrial, and international awards for approximately seventy principal investigators (PI).  Will serve as a member of the MRL fiscal operations staff reporting to the financial operations manager and work collaboratively with other fiscal staff members on the pre- and post-award administration processes.  Responsibilities include supporting PIs with the development of research proposal budgets and all administrative content for proposals; providing post-award administration support on a portfolio of PIs; monitoring the financial performance of active grants and contracts and providing regular updates and projections for PIs to verify the proper distribution of resources and use of funds; providing financial analysis and oversight and preparing reports for PIs, senior administrators, and sponsors; and continually monitoring accounts to ensure compliance with MIT and sponsor policies and requirements, including the closeout period.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED;  bachelor's degree; at least two years’ experience in accounting or finance in a nonprofit or educational setting; strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to prioritize and work effectively under deadlines; solid understanding of federal regulations applicable to research projects and the ability to communicate these effectively to a PI and the research team; high-level of proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel; willingness to learn new business methods and computational skills and demonstrated record of assuming greater responsibilities over time; good judgment and discretion with sensitive information; and ability to work both independently and as a member of a productive, collaborative, and innovative team in a fast-paced and challenging environment. 

PREFERRED:  MIT experience and familiarity with MIT systems, e.g., Kuali Coeus and SAP.  Job #18437-6
