The Physics Department at Lancaster University and the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work in the field of laser-driven electron acceleration. You are expected to perform theoretical and numerical studies of wakefield acceleration and radiation generation. Your research will complement and support current activities on wakefield acceleration and radiation generation at the two Institutes. In particular, it is foreseen that you will be involved in future experimental campaigns at the Cockcroft Institute.
We seek a Research Associate with a solid background on numerical plasma physics. You should have experience in carrying out simulations based on the particle-in-cell method. Previous experience in modelling laser-plasma interaction experiments constitutes a plus.
You will join and collaborate with a team of researchers in laser-plasma interaction, accelerator physics and engineering. You will be based at Lancaster University and will be expected to undertake travel to the Cockcroft Institute (STFC Daresbury National laboratory).
You should have or be about to receive a PhD in accelerator, plasma or high energy physics. You should have excellent written and verbal communication.

Student Wellbeing Services are looking for a highly motivated and organised person for the role of Digital Transition Officer within the Transitions team.
You will contribute to the digital development and co-ordination of a broad package of pre- and post-entry student support programmes, events and services. Support will be focused on improving the transition to University and the student experience of specific Widening Participation (WP) groups including disabled students and mature students. You will need experience of developing on-line training or support, and of developing and designing attractive web content. You will need the ability to work independently as well as the skills to collaborate with colleagues to develop effective schemes and services.You should have experience of collection and analysing data, as well as excellent organisation and problem solving skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
You will need to be able to communicate and work with a wide variety of people including students, staff, parents, external organisations and colleagues within Student and Education Services. You should have experience of preparing written reports and the ability to present evaluation data in a meaningful way for a variety of audiences. Knowledge and understanding of disability would be an advantage. Occasionally working out of normal office hours including evening and weekends will be required.
