The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care (PACC) at Penn Medicine provides comprehensive care for adults with a wide range of disorders. Our physicians apply the latest scientific and medical advances for treatment and conduct ongoing research to develop new strategies for the prevention, detection and treatment of respiratory and allergic diseases as well as critical illness. The PACC Division has a strong commitment to training the next generation of specialists to be outstanding clinicians, researchers and educators.

As part of the PENN-CHOP Lung Biology Institute and the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, the Lung Epithelial Cell Biology Laboratory partners with other leading investigators in the Perelman School of Medicine and beyond in collaborative research projects aimed at understanding fundamental questions related to acute and chronic lung diseases. The Research Specialist will effectively and creatively participate in these projects by providing support in the management of novel animal models coupled with a broad array of molecular and cellular bench techniques. He/she will consult with the Principal Investigator and other post-doctoral and staff scientists in the group to maintain the mouse lines created by the group, design experiments, perform assays, and present results at laboratory meetings. Participation in the execution of peer reviewed manuscripts and abstracts for presentation at national meetings will also be considered

Job Description

The Research Specialist B will manage and maintain expanding colonies of various mouse models of lung diseases. Duties include breeding colonies, conducting timed pregnancy (occasional), DNA/RNA purification, and PCR-based genotyping while maintaining well organized and rigorous records. Additional duties comprise mouse related experiments including, surgery, drug treatment, post-experiment evaluation, and mouse product sample collection. Actively participate in the design, execution, analysis, and publication of results of scientific experiments.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
