Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the "go-to" organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Job Description

The Nucleic Acid Technologies Core (NAT) at GTP utilizes a variety of cutting-edge Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies to serve both the Discovery and Translational research teams. Processing hundreds of samples a month, the core provides both sequence and data analysis for on- and off-target genome editing assays, protein engineering libraries, genomics applications, plasmid sequencing, and vector genome sequencing. 

We are actively recruiting a Resource Technologist B to support the efforts of the NAT Core. 

As a Resource Technologist B, you will perform a wide range of moderate to complex high-throughput Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques, including DNA extraction, quantification, fragmentation, quality assessment, PCR, qPCR, Illumina and Oxford Nanopore sequencing. You will also Collect, analyze and interpret quality control metrics from NGS QC instruments, including ultrasonicators, spectrophotometers, fluorometers and high-resolution automated capillary electrophoresis platforms. Data analysis will be performed under the guidance of a staff Bioinformatician.

Quaifications:

  • BS degree in molecular biology or related field required required
  • 2-3 years relevant laboratory experience required 
  • Knowledge of molecular biology methods is required
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high-throughput laboratory techniques such as multichannel pipetting and microplate manipulation is highly desired
  • Next- generation sequencing experience is desired
  • Independent thinker, meticulous, detail-oriented, and analytical. Excellent time management skills are essential.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills required
