Psychology Research Associate at the Human Flourishing Program

School Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Department/Area The Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS)

Position Description

The Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) is seeking applications for a junior or senior researcher in psychology. Candidates should have a PhD in the empirical social sciences and at least two years experience in psychological research.

The psychology research associate would be expected to carry out an independent research program on topics related to human well-being, and to contribute to the program’s interdisciplinary work. The research associate would have access to the program’s various large cohort datasets on well-being.

The position is fully-funded for 3 years with potential for extension based on funding and performance. However, please note all academic appointments are made annually, and the research associate will be appointed for up to 12 months at a time.

Salary and working title will be commensurate with experience. Several of the Program’s research staff have left tenured appointments to join the Program.

The Human Flourishing Program at Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science seeks to carry out research and teaching to bridge the empirical social sciences with the humanities on topics related to human flourishing. The psychology research associate would join an interdisciplinary group of researchers across the fields of statistics, epidemiology, sociology, philosophy, and theology. More information on the Human Flourishing Program can be found at the Program website: https://hfh.fas.harvard.edu/

Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in the empirical social sciences and at least two years of experience in psychological research required.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have obtained your Ph.D. in the past 12 months you must be able to provide a certificate of completion from the degree-granting institution OR a letter from the institute’s registrar stating all requirements for the degree have been successfully completed and should verify the date the degree has been conferred. No exceptions.

Additional Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in empirical well-being research. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the program, familiarity with and/or coursework in philosophy or theology is desirable, though certainly not a pre-requisite.

TO APPLY:

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY ONLINE. Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae, 3 letters of reference, a cover letter, and a research statement to Program Director Tyler VanderWeele at tvanderw@hsph.harvard.edu

Only applicants who submit accordingly will be considered. However, pre-application inquiries are welcome.
