The School of Education, Communication and Society (ECS) is seeking to recruit an outstanding scholar with expertise in sociology, social policy or a closely allied field to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and to conduct high quality research.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in social justice and applied social science and the expertise needed to make a broad contribution to teaching and module leadership on the BA Social Sciences and Master’s programmes. They will have a track record of producing high quality research publications, proven teaching ability and an interest in enquiry-based, participatory and/or critical pedagogies and communication across disciplines. Interests in social theory, media and society, gender, sexuality, race, global justice, disability studies and/or childhood and youth would also be an advantage.

To be appointed at grade 7 there is an expectation that candidates will be able to evidence the majority of the following:

  • A completed teaching qualification equivalent to a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice
  • Having passed probation at a higher education institution on an academic contract
  • A consistent track record of high quality publications over at least a three-year period
  • Having undertaken a significant administrative role

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

The selection process will include a panel interview and a presentation. 

The interviews are scheduled to take place on 16 April 2020.
