Two postdoctoral Research Associate positions in Viral Cell Biology

The successful candidate will join a team of researchers in Bristol investigating how cellular regulatory factors impact viral entry into host cells. The work will contribute to a 6-year ERC-funded Synergy Grant project “ubiquitin chains in viral infections” and we will be studying multiple aspects of influenza viral entry. The role will involve the day-to-day running of the project, performing a range of research tasks and assisting with training and supervision of postgraduate members of the lab. Techniques used will include live and fixed fluorescence microscopy (near super-res, super-res), molecular virology, cell and molecular biology, proteomics, high-content screening, image analysis and FACS. The successful applicant will join a collaborative and creative research team based in the University of Bristol and will make regular meetings with the ERC partner labs in Switzerland headed by Patrick Matthias (FMI Basel) and Jeffrey Bode (ETH Zurich).

A PhD (awarded or imminent) in virology, biomedical science or biochemistry is essential and the successful candidate should have prior knowledge and experience on virus assays and virus entry, assay development, molecular biology, biochemistry and live fluorescence microscopy. Previous experience working with high-content imaging, image analysis, super-resolution microscopy, electron microscopy is highly desirable and international work/study experience is a plus. The successful applicant will be highly organised and independent, and eager to learn new skills and to interact with a broad range of colleagues. The position will initially be on a 3-year contract with possibility of extension up to 6 years.
