A Research Associate position is available in the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies, University of Bristol. The successful applicant will work on the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Urban Disaster Risk Hub, funded by the UK Research Institute.  The project seeks to bring disaster risk management to the centre of global urban policy and practice, strengthening the voice and capacity of the urban poor.  The researchers explore themes related to local community capacities in the face of disasters, and how urban and state governments integrate development and disaster risk management.  The research activities will be coordinated with local teams in the four partner cities of Quito, Nairobi, Kathmandu and Istanbul.

The successful applicant will be responsible for arranging and conducting qualitative interviews in the host cities, preparing the data and contributing to its analysis, and contributing to cross-case learning of best practices related to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and development.
