With campuses in BC’s three largest cities – Vancouver, Surrey and Burnaby – SFU acknowledges the Coast Salish peoples, on whose traditional territories its campuses stand.  By recognizing these unceded territories, SFU aspires to create space for reconciliation through dialogue and decolonizing practices.

With its vision of being Canada’s ‘engaged university’, Simon Fraser University is defined by its dynamic integration of innovative education, cutting-edge research and far-reaching community engagement.  SFU was founded over 50 years ago with a mission to be a different kind of university – to bring an interdisciplinary approach to learning, embrace bold initiatives and engage with communities near and far.

The Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT) exemplifies SFU’s vision.  It is composed of programs that are at the intersection of media, art, culture and technology, and which are continuously transformed by local and global interactions, digital technologies, creativity, innovation and sociocultural change.  FCAT has three unique Schools: Communication, Contemporary Arts, Interactive Arts and Technology and two distinct programs: Publishing and the Masters of Digital Media.

The Dean of FCAT is responsible for all aspects of the Faculty’s operation.  A respected academic with achievements in research, teaching and creative activities, the Dean will encourage and support academic excellence and research productivity across the disciplines.   The new Dean will have a terminal degree, together with a record of achievement in administration and will bring outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that will engage faculty, staff, students and external communities in the continued growth of the Faculty and its emergence as a leader in Canada.

SFU is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and mutual respect and strives to create an environment where all SFU community members can thrive.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, however Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.  SFU is committed to employment equity and encourages applications from all qualified people, including visible minorities, Indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities.
