Applications are invited for appointment as Scientific Officer in the Department of Microbiology (Ref.: 499512), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

This post is created specifically to bring new impetus and vigour to the University’s research enterprise, and to meet the strategic research needs identified by the Department of Microbiology.  Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in virology, immunology or molecular biology, plus strong post-doctoral research experience for a minimum of 8 years in the field of microbiology or a related discipline, including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, advanced imaging techniques and animal models.  Experience in writing grant proposals and training research postgraduate students and post-doctoral fellows would be an advantage.  Applicants should be highly motivated with good communication skills in English.  The appointee will work in the research areas related to virus host interaction.  Those who have responded to the previous advertisement (Ref.: 498846) need not re-apply.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
