The College of the North Atlantic - Qatar is inviting nominations and applications for the position of Applied and Experiential Learning (AEL), Academic Manager in the department of Academic Quality. Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP), Academic Quality, the Applied and Experiential Learning (AEL), Academic Manager must be a proven leader with the skills and expertise necessary to support the department of Academic Quality in fully implementing the College’s mission and vision.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This position requires an energetic and enthusiastic individual who will lead the Department’s strategic direction establishing the College as a leader in applied and experiential teaching and learning. The candidate will oversee the implementation of training and development to advance high-impact experiential learning as a signature element of the College education.  They will also promote and lead research, evaluation, selection, and college-wide implementation of advanced, state-of-the-art technologies to meet CNA-Q’s standards of excellence for its learning and instructional communities.

The candidate should have an outstanding record of experience as a leader working collaboratively across disciplines to develop strategy and establish best practices in teaching and learning with educational technology for applied and experiential learning. The successful candidate is responsible to contribute to the development of the Applied and Experiential Learning (AEL) policies and procedures, implement the AEL department’s business plan in line with CNA-Q’s strategy, and identify innovative technology in teaching and learning that can be implemented so that, CNA-Q remains at the forefront of technical developments. The candidate will contribute to the annual budget and business planning process to ensure the AEL department’s strategy is in line with the college’s strategic plan.

The candidate will oversee the identification, implementation, delivery and evaluation of faculty professional development opportunities such as workshops and mentoring on a range of topics with focus on Educational Sciences to facilitate improved instructional delivery at CNA-Q. Responsibilities also include providing orientation to new faculty so that they understand CNA-Q’s approach to teaching & learning andragogy, collaborate with schools to identify areas for professional growth and instructional development to ensure provision of relevant and targeted activities, and promote CNA-Q’s innovative use of teaching and learning technological tools, devices and approaches.

The candidate will develop and implement programs to acknowledge and celebrate accomplishments in teaching, promote discussion and information sharing regarding instructional practice at CNA-Q and peer learning success, and ensure technology integration into curriculum design to promote a consistent approach to student experience across the College.

The candidate will provide professional development support and perform periodic performance reviews for direct subordinates to contribute to the development of employees, develop workforce plans for the AEL department in collaboration with the Human Resources Department. The candidate must have excellent organizational, leadership, decision-making, delegation and communications skills as well as the ability to act as a mentor to team members.

Qualifications

Education and Certifications:

A Masters awarded from accredited institution in Teaching Sciences or related field.

Experience:

Minimum 4 years of managerial experience in a post-secondary institution.

Good experience in teaching and research in a post-secondary institution.

Language:

Fluency in written and spoken English language. 

Other Required Skills:

Demonstrably outstanding record of leadership and management in a post-secondary institution. Strong leadership skills with a desire to achieve organizational success and to lead by example is required. Collaborative decision-making and a high standard of professional integrity is essential. A proactive can-do attitude to work and good time management is essential. The candidate should have the ability to anticipate change and effectively manage quality and risk at all times. Effective resource management is essential. Commitment to positive relationship building and effective working relationships across all levels of the organizations is required. Candidates should demonstrate explanatory communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English language is required; Fluency in Arabic language is an asset.
