Research Officer, Centre for Alcohol Policy Research

- $67,796 - $90,821 per annum plus up to 17% superannuation
About the role
CAPR (The Centre for Alcohol Policy Research) is looking for outstanding applicants who are interested in alcohol-related research, to work on a new qualitative research project funded by the Australian Research Council and the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth). This project will collect ethnographic and qualitative interview data, along with survey data to comprehensively investigate drinking cultures among nurses and lawyers. The Project is a collaboration between CAPR at La Trobe University, Monash University, VicHealth, Eastern Health, Nursing and Midwifery Health Program Victoria (NMHPV) and Jarryd Bartle Consulting (JBC).
The Research Officer will play a critical role in the small team working on the project. Your responsibilities will include managing day-to-day aspects of the project (e.g., preparation or research materials, ethics applications), organising and keeping records of team and advisory panel meetings, conducting field research (ethnographic research in settings where nurses or lawyers drink), interviews and surveys, analysing data and contributing to write-up of findings in reports and scientific journal articles. The successful applicant may also have the opportunity to work on other qualitative alcohol projects at CAPR.
You will hold an Honours degree in anthropology, sociology, criminology, gender studies, or a related discipline (e.g., youth studies) and evidence of experience in research (this may include research conducted as part of an Honours or Masters degree). You will have the ability to work independently under limited supervision, a high level of oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in a cooperative and collegial manner. You will be able to undertake some work in the evenings and on weekends. Experience of qualitative research in a relevant field will be highly regarded.
