At TU Dresden, Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Institute of Materials Science, the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (Prof. Dr. G. Cuniberti) offers a position as

with 65 % of the fulltime weekly hours. The position will start at the earliest possible date and is embedded in the cooperative research project Olfactorial Perceptronics funded by the Volkswagen Foundation which aims at establishing an interdisciplinary and innovative combination between electronic sensors and human perception with a special focus on olfaction. The fixed-term position is limited for 1,5 years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Acts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).
Tasks: The main goals of the project are the development of a cross-disciplinary network of researchers working on electronic sensors and human perception and the preparation of a follow up grant to realize the multidisciplinary qualification of a Perceptronics research team. To this end, the successful candidate will be fully integrated in the research activities of the partners constituting the Perceptronics project: the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (Prof. Dr. G. Cuniberti) at TU Dresden, the Smell and Taste Center (Prof. Dr. Th. Hummel) and the Department of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine (Jun.-Prof. Dr. I. Croy) at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital Dresden.
The position will involve the coordination of the project and also include monitoring of the progress of the research activities, an active role in the communication with internal and external academic and industrial partners, the organization of international workshops and meetings, and the assistance with and participation in writing proposals for third-party grants. Interdisciplinary thinking and team-oriented working are key requirements.
Requirements: For a successful application a university degree, preferably in either Medicine, Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or Electrical Engineering. Previous experience in empirical olfactory research, or sensor data integration and evaluation are considered as preferential. Experience in scientific writing and grant writing is regarded as a prerequisite. Furthermore, personal initiative, independent work, as well as excellent communication and writing skills in English.
