Job Description Summary

The Research Investigator Sr (SRI) will act in a leadership role, overseeing and designing advanced experiments. The Simpkins Laboratory has developed a unique, state of the art, patient-derived xenograft (PDX) experimental platform for NIH and industry sponsored evaluation of new drugs for the treatment of ovarian cancer. The ultimate goal of the laboratory is to identify scientifically rational drug combinations at the bench and move them into the clinic for women with ovarian cancer. The Simpkins Lab seeks an individual with a PhD, and extensive background in molecular/cellular biology and background in bioinformatics preferred but not required. Seeking an individual who has the experience to conduct their own project independently. The candidate alongside with the PI and lab manager, should be able to oversee the labs research projects, manage scientific collaborations, assist in writing scientific manuscripts and grant submissions.

Job Description

The Simpkins laboratory in the Ovarian Cancer Center has the goal to identify novel therapies in the lab and bring them to the clinic for the treatment of ovarian cancer.

The Research Investigator Sr (SRI) will carry out his/her own projects with independence and timely submission of results for publication. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional "publication ready" format and to able to independently prepare and write manuscripts and grants for submission. The candidate will serve as a lead on his/her own projects and contribute scientifically to other Simpkins lab projects. Candidate should be able to give scientific direction to postdoctoral fellows and technicians in the lab. The candidate will assist Dr. Simpkins in the scientific oversight of ongoing projects within the lab and assist with scientific collaborations with colleagues outside of the laboratory (including industry). The candidate will work closely with Dr. Simpkins and the lab manager to make sure the Simkpins lab is productive and runs efficiently. The candidate should have extensive experience in cellular/molecular biology. Candidate should have experience in preparing protein lysates, western bloting, FACS, transfection/transduction, and PCR are required. Responsibilities will also include establishing and growing primary tumor cultures, performing

invitro protein assays. SRI will be testing cells with a multi-compound drug-screen.

The candidate should have good communication skills, and be proficient in communicating and writing in English. Candidate should support a team approach to research and work well with other lab members. Must have experience writing and submitting scientific manuscripts.

Qualifications

The minimum of a PhD. and 5 years of experience working in a laboratory.

Experience in tissue culture such as growing human primary cells, ability to transfect/transduce cells, ability to perform western blots, and flow cytometry. Should be able to perform DNA/RNA analysis

Experience with DNA damage, fiber/combing preferred. Experience in bioinformatics analysis, (RNA, ATAC, DNA sequencing analysis) is preferred. Ability to trouble shoot is required. Ability to maintain organized laboratory data.

Must be flexible, able to work well with others and is a team player. Must be flexible with work hours.

Position is contingent upon funding.
