For the DFG-funded Emmy-Noether research group “Towards fluid dynamics of foam and froth” the Chair of Transport Processes at Interfaces offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD student

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

The position starts at 01.05.2020 and lasts for 3 years until 30.04.2023. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).

Position: The research group deals with the investigation of the flow of foam and froth. It will develop and characterize novel measurement techniques. In a later stage, these techniques will be applied to selected foam flow configurations. The project is carried out in close collaboration with the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf.

In the offered position electrical impedance tomography and the Wire-Mesh sensor will be employed to foam in order to measure the liquid fraction with high spatial and temporal resolution. Validation of the measurement will be carried out by neutron radiography. Subsequently, the wash-water distribution in froth will be analysed in order to optimise foam washing in mineral flotation.

Requirements: A very good university degree in Physics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related area is required, as well as very good communication and writing skills in English. Furthermore, creativity, personal initiative, independent work, as well as the ability to work in a team are necessary.
