Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) specialising in DNA extraction and analysis techniques. The successful candidate is to be employed by Northumbria University to work as a researcher on the NERC funded project ‘The Home Biome Project. DUsty SecreTs (DUST): characterising, communicating and connecting the hidden world within our homes’. The PDRA will contribute to the measurement of functional genes in indoor dust samples, collected as part of citizen science activity, and to the interpretation of these data. The PDRA will work with researchers involved in the network at Health Canada, the University of Minho, the British Geological Survey, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Newcastle University and the University of the West of Scotland. The PDRA is also expected to lead and/or contribute to dissemination of results in peer-reviewed journals, and at conferences.
The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of DNA extraction and analysis techniques. Experience in MiSeq and analysis of the data is very important, particularly with respect to AMR genes. Applicants must hold a PhD degree (or close to completion) in Biosciences or related discipline.
The candidate will be based in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences at Northumbria University and will be aligned with the Environmental Geochemistry and Ecology research group.
