The University of Aberdeen wishes to appoint a lecturer in the History of Art from 1 July 2020. Applicants should have a research and teaching focus on any area of Medieval art, architecture and/or visual culture. The successful candidate will contribute to an ambitious curriculum redevelopment, teaching across the art history programme and developing specialist honours courses focusing on their field of expertise. The appointment will be made at lecturer level with the expectation that applicants will have an academic publishing profile of demonstrable excellence.

The main purpose of this role is to fulfil teaching and supervision requirements, within the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy and to contribute to the research excellence of the School. An important part of this post will be participation in the continuing development and delivery of the History of Art programme at Aberdeen. The successful candidate will be expected to have a demonstrable ability to teach Medieval art, architecture and/or visual culture, and to contribute broadly to the undergraduate teaching programme in History of Art and to support and supervise the work of postgraduate students.

Applicants should have a proven research record of demonstrable excellence in the discipline of History of Art, and an ability to teach across that discipline.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, have experience of teaching in higher education, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 salary scale (£41,526 - £49,552 and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 3 year probation period.
