Founded in 1894, City, University of London is a global university committed to academic excellence with a focus on business and the professions and an enviable central London location.

City attracts around 20,000 students (over 40% at postgraduate level), from more than 150 countries and staff from over 75 countries.

In the last decade City has almost tripled the proportion of its total academic staff producing world-leading or internationally excellent research.

Led by President, Professor Sir Paul Curran, City has made significant investments in its academic staff, its estate and its infrastructure and continues to work towards realising its vision of being a leading global university.

The School of Health Sciences is ranked 1st in London for Medical Technology, including Radiography, and 1st in London for student satisfaction in Nursing (Complete University Guide 2020). The School has received strong results from the latest National Student Survey (NSS 2019), including 100% student satisfaction for Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology), 100% for Speech and Language Therapy, 97% for Children’s Nursing, and 94% for Optometry.

The School is seeking to appoint to a Professorship in Quality Care for Older People. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of research excellence in the field of older people’s health and well-being. The postholder will also facilitate the work of the Research Group for the Quality of Care for Older People.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity for an outstanding individual to develop their academic career.

The appointed Professor will be responsible for undertaking world-leading or internationally excellent research; generating research grant income; developing the School’s external partnerships in their particular field; and facilitating the work of the School’s Research Centres, their Division, and the wider School.

We are seeking applications from accomplished and ambitious academics who hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area, and can demonstrate their ability to lead the development of a programme of research.  A world-leading research reputation, and corresponding record of internationally excellent publications, is essential, as is a successful track record of securing research funding from Research Councils and other funding bodies.  Candidates will also have experience of delivering strong and effective academic leadership within a university or similar academic environment.

Applications are invited from individuals who also have significant experience of delivering excellent education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and of supervising doctoral students to completion.  The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate established links with local, national and international organisations (e.g. NHS Trusts, private sector).

City offers a sector-leading salary, pension scheme and benefits including a comprehensive package of staff training and development.

The role is available from 1st July 2020 or earlier by negotiation.
