Applications are invited for appointment as Non-Tenure Track Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology (Ref.: 499530), to commence as soon as possible on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a medical qualification registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong, with a higher professional qualification of specialty Fellowship of the relevant Hong Kong colleges under the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine or equivalent.   Young clinical professionals with a strong interest in pursuing a career in academic medicine are preferred.  They should demonstrate a commitment to teaching, and the competence to perform research in their respective fields.  Those who have presented/published scientific papers in local/international conferences would have an advantage.

The appointee will provide clinical services at the University’s affiliate teaching hospitals; undertake teaching duties; conduct high-quality scholarly research (both clinical and laboratory-based); and contribute to administration at the Department, Faculty and University levels.  Direct communication with patients is required and the languages employed are English, Cantonese and Putonghua, whereas teaching activities are conducted in English.  Information about the Department can be obtained at http://www.ophthalmology.hku.hk/.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  A monthly cash allowance will be offered to the successful candidate.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
