UNIVERSITY AND DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

Applications are invited for the position of Director of the Centre for Academic Affairs, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University [XJTLU]. The University has four administrative centres of which the Centre for Academic Affairs is the largest. The Director works closely with the Vice President Academic Affairs to ensure administrative support is provided to all academic departments and activities, and to the office of the Centre for Academic Affairs.

The successful applicant will have a record of leadership and management in university administration. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience of work in China. Candidates must have native-speaker competence in English and appropriate professional experience for their stage of career development, including particularly demonstrated team-building and inter-personnel skills.

Applicants are expected to be able to operate in English, the language of instruction at the university. The successful appointee will be expected to work closely with the Vice President Academic Affairs. Appointment is initially for three years, with one further appointment for three years possible.

XJTLU is a unique collaborative institution, the first Joint Venture University in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees for all programmes. Formed in 2006, the first cohort of students graduated in August 2010. The University now has 15,000 students studying on its campus in the Suzhou Industrial Park [SIP]. A new campus is currently under development at Taicang, in the northeastern part of Suzhou City. XJTLU aims to become truly research-led, and has recently committed significant investment into research development and the expansion of PhD student numbers on campus.

The Centre for Academic Affairs has five constituent offices: The Registry, Education and Quality Assurance (EQA—Education Office); Research Office; Graduate School; Academic Services Office (academic planning, staff management office, academic governance, committee support, academic management and administrative services).

Salary is by negotiation.
