Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Perform charge capture audits by reviewing patient medical record documentation against the corresponding invoice, for out-patient visits as well as hospitalized patients
  • Prepare modifications to patient charges as a result of the audits, if required
  • Interact with clinical Services directly to obtain additional information needed to understand what medical procedures were performed and properly bill account, based on that information
  • Identify charging practices (including fee code use accuracy) and clinical documentation issues and work with ancillary departments to resolve issues; notify appropriate leadership of identified issues
  • Maintain an audit activity report (Excel spreadsheet) to track and communicate audit activity with the associated financial impact; analyze audit results to identify patterns, trends, variances and opportunities to improve revenue integrity; notify appropriate leadership of identified issues
  • Provide education to all clinical Services as needed to promote appropriate charge capture processes and improve understanding of the documentation requirements for specific charge activity
  • Work with Client Liaison to audit charges based on client concerns/questions and discuss/clarify findings
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned

 Qualifications

  • Charge Audit Nurse D: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology and 4+ years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment, with extensive knowledge of veterinary healthcare practices or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Charge Audit Nurse E: as above, but 6+ years experience required.
  • Strong analytical and investigational skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills – must be detail-orientated
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal; ability to interact positively with the public and staff in a professional manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with many levels throughout the hospital
  • Ability to function independently with productive time management skills, as well as work cooperatively within a team
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook is required
