Job Description

The Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy is the newest department in the Perelman School of Medicine and has experienced rapid expansion. Under dynamic senior leadership, our faculty are engaged in innovative and ground breaking research both domestically and internationally. Given the significant growth in sponsored research, we are seeking a Grants Manager A to provide experienced research administration and financial management support to Department investigators. These tasks include managing proposal development, budget development and related pre-award activities for a diverse sponsor portfolio (both domestic and foreign).  Managing post award activities includes account setup, monitoring and review of all sponsored projects expenditures- including fund projections, and recommending/implementing corrective actions as needed to ensure timely and accurate grant closeouts. The Grants Manager will monitor compliance with sponsor guidelines, OMB Uniform Guidance, and school and university policies, and meet with principal investigators to discuss and advise them on financial issues related to their portfolios.

The Grants Manager A reports to the Grants Manager B and the Manager, Admin & Finance for MEHP; will have an indirect reporting relationship on an as needed basis with the Director of Fiscal Operations for MEHP; and also will have a dotted reporting relationship to the PSOM Office of Research Support Services.

Qualifications

Grant Manager A: Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Adobe, and Business Objects preferred. Excellent critical thinking, analytical, verbal and written communication is required. Ability to apply solid organizational and time management skills to a deadline driven, multiple priority work environment is required. Familiarity with UPENN sponsored research policies and related financial systems is preferred. Experience with NIH and other federal granting agencies, and a working knowledge of  Uniform Guidance is preferred.
