Job Description

The Palliative and Advance Illness Research (PAIR) Center seeks a statistician to perform and assist others in performing statistical analyses for a number of studies.

Studies are in three primary fields: (1) acute care health services research; (2) large pragmatic trials involving interventions related to palliative care and end-of-life care (3) randomized trials of incentives to promote uptake of health-related behaviors such as advance care planning activities and clinical research participation. This statistician will work closely with a senior statistician as well as with several collaborating faculty members. Duties include assisting a data manager in developing the organization and structure of analytic data sets; performing analyses; teaching students, clinical fellows, and junior faculty to perform their own analyses (e.g., serving as a resource for questions on implementing analyses in statistical software packages); preparing tables and figures for presentations, abstracts, and manuscripts; and contributing to the writing of manuscripts (particularly methods sections) with opportunities for authorship. Candidates must be proficient in STATA; experience using R would be a plus.

Qualifications:

The minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or Epidemiology and 3 to 5 years of related (analytic) experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; strong organizational skills; experience conducting studies in one or more of the above content areas preferred; excellent verbal and written communication skills essential to enable working with multiple members of research team; able to perform a broad range of analyses in Stata is essential; additional skills in SAS and/or R are a plus; proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint essential; experience making manuscript-quality tables and figures in one or more of the above applications is essential.
