JCU is seeking two WHS Support Officers to be based at JCU Townsville in the following full time and continuing roles;

  • Work Health and Safety (WHS) Support Officer
  • Work Health and Safety (WHS) Support Officer (Fire & Emergency)

What you can accomplish in the role

As part of a team you will assist the University to comply with Workplace Health and Safety legislation, Codes of Practice, Regulations and Standards. You will have the opportunity to liaise with both staff and students to ensure a safe environment for everyone on campus.

The WHS Support Officer assists with incident and hazard management; WHS risk management; auditing, inspections and investigations. This includes providing advice, developing and implementing safety action plans and maintaining appropriate databases.

The WHS Support Officer (Fire and Emergency)works with the relevant University Emergency Control Organisations(Fire Wardens located within a building) to coordinate the annual fire evacuation drill program. This includes ensuring appropriate building fire safety plans and signage are in place and current, conducting compliance inspections in relation to relevant legislation and participating in monitoring and maintaining a first aid management system across University campuses.
