Your new role

A 2 year post-doctoral research position to work on an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) project that aims to evaluate how social media Influencers can become conduits for communicating information among young people between Australia and East Asia.

This study will offer a framework for examining the Influencer industry in Australia based on expert economies in East Asia. Its analysis of young people’s internet cultures will generate new knowledge on how information circulating in innovative communication formats is received by young Australians and young East Asians.

Your role will contribute to the efficient running of the study. You will develop a coherent program of research; disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops and conferences; publish findings in high quality refereed journals; and undertake effective supervision of research honours, research masters and research doctoral students.

You will also undertake project management duties: implementing project monitoring and evaluation processes; coordinating ethics applications and providing support to peer researchers and partner organisations; and assisting with general research activities, including collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, and manuscript preparation.

You will bring to the role         

  • A PhD, preferably in Humanities or Social Sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting traditional or digital ethnographic fieldwork – highly desirable.
  • Competence in an East Asian language, preferably Chinese, Japanese or Korean – essential.
  • A record of high-quality, peer-reviewed research publication, preferably demonstrating expertise in social media studies.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying policies, procedures and legislation, as well as maintaining data security and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage and implement project plans to achieve desired outcomes within required constraints.
