AGBU

The Animal Genetics & Breeding Unit (AGBU), a joint unit of the University of New England (UNE) and NSW DPI, carries out research in genetic improvement for livestock and plant industries. The work program includes developing and implementing methods for utilisation of genomic information in genetic evaluation and improvement. The implementations are via BREEDPLAN, Sheep Genetics (LAMBPLAN, MERINOSELECT and KIDPLAN), PIGBLUP and TREEPLAN, systems used by breeders across Australia and internationally.

Current research includes definition of breeding objectives, development of new methods to predict breeding values and the design of breeding programs.

About the role

AGBU is currently seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow in Methods and Tools to conduct research in the areas of: development of single step analyses for multi-breed data, hybrid models, and analysis of DNA sequence data, strategies for phenotyping and genotyping, plus efficient algorithms to manage large data workflows.

Skills & Experience

Successful applicants will havepost-graduate qualification in Quantitative Genetics or related fields, strong computing skills, experience in the use of computer packages for statistical analysis and an interest in agriculture. Excellent written and oral English language communication skills and ability to work in a team environment are essential,
