Description

The Department of Physics at the University of Chicago invites applications for the position of full-time Lecturer. We seek applicants who are knowledgeable in the implementation and effective use of evidence-based, active learning teaching strategies, and are well-versed in the literature of physics education research.

The position will be part of the Service Employees International Union as a Lecturer 3. The relationship between the lecturers and the university is governed in part through a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The standard teaching requirements for a full-time Lecturer is six one-quarter courses taught during the three-quarter academic year.  This teaching load may be reduced as the candidate will be expected to oversee and facilitate the implementation of evidence-based teaching strategies across our curriculum.

At the time of appointment, successful applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Physics, Physics (or Science) Education Research, or closely related fields.  Demonstrable effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduate level and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment are essential.  The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to work in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.

All applicants must apply online at the University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment website at http://apply.interfolio.com/64600 and must upload a cover letter, a curriculum vita, a statement of teaching philosophy, and input the contact information for at least three references.

Application screening will begin July 24, 2019, and will continue until the position is filled or the search is closed
