Job description

Part-time 3 days per week (0.6 FTE) Permanent

A part time (3 days/21.75 hours per week), permanent opportunity has arisen for a Research Degrees Assistant to join the Research and Innovation Office, which supports research activity across the University to achieve the aims of our Strategy 2020. Based in our Merchiston campus, the role holder will join our Research and Innovation Office Research Degrees Team in supporting academics and research students across all schools.

This team is responsible for providing a professional support service for colleagues across the University in liaison with a range of stakeholders including research students, academic staff and external examiners.

The Role

As a Research Degrees Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering a high quality, customer-focussed and efficient service for all our customers.

Key aspects of the role are working with colleagues to ensure that accurate records on research student progress are maintained, and assisting in the formal administration of examination procedures. You will also act as a point of contact internally and externally for research degree matters, ensuring that all enquiries receive a timely response.

What Are We Looking For

The successful applicant will be educated to Degree level or equivalent and have demonstrable experience of University administration. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills are required together with the ability to work on your own initiative, to work on multiple activities and to meet deadlines.

Experience of IT, spreadsheets, word processing and databases (particularly SITS) would be an advantage.
