Position: Marketing and Communications Coordinator for the Melbourne Energy Institute 
Work type:  0.8 FTE (4 days per week) Fixed-term position until December 2020

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Melbourne Energy Institute (MEI) is looking for a highly motivated Marketing and Communications Coordinator. This role is a part-time position (0.8 FTE) and reports to the Institute Manager.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator oversees all communication and engagement activities on behalf of the Institute, in consultation with the Institute Manager. Key responsibilities include managing the delivery of public events including workshops, lectures, seminars and short courses.

The successful candidate will have strong organisational and communication skills, and will work effectively with our stakeholders and the Institute team. You will need to have experience in coordinating resources to deliver the Institute’s communications and events program, and be able to develop high quality digital and social media content.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of the delivery of events, including evening events.
  • Manage the operations of the MEInetwork program in coordination with Convenors and other stakeholders.
  • Manage internal and external newsletters, event notifications, and other email campaigns.
  • Manage social media accounts.
  • Maintain the MEI website, including copywriting.
  • Develop relationships with key media outlets, and process external requests for expertise and media.
  • Prepare activity data and monitoring, and measure effectiveness of communications activities.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) responsibilities as outlined in section 5 of the Position Description.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Completion of a degree with relevant experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing for the public.
  • Previous experience in using social media as a marketing and communications tool.
  • Expertise in branding and design for both web and printed materials.
  • Previous experience in website management including content strategy, content production, and maintenance.
  • Experience in co-ordinating events
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills in order to liaise with internal and external (including overseas) stakeholders, and to provide high level communications advice for a wide range of audiences.
  • High level organisational skills with demonstrated capacity to work both independently and within a team, and to multi-task, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to develop new skills in data management, analysis and presentation.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of energy business, technology and policy issues, and the research sector at large.
  • Experience in working within a University environment.
