Associate/Assistant Professor in Communication

The Department of Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the positions of Associate/Assistant Professor in Communication. We are specifically looking for applicants in data journalism and big data communication studies. A track record of high quality research and publication through internationally respected outlets or demonstrated ability is a must. An ability to teach courses in some of the following areas is also needed: journalism, data journalism, new media studies, public relations, advertising, research methods, big data communication research and/or communication theories.

The Department of Communication currently offers broad-based curricula leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees covering various areas of communication studies (communication theory, intercultural communication, organizational communication, communication skills); vocationally-oriented public communication (public relations, advertising, event planning); media studies and journalism (journalism writing and publication, mass media, new media, digital culture); cultural studies (cultural and critical theory, cinema, popular culture); public speaking; and creative media (video production, photography, animation). Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field. Candidates for Associate Professorship should have an outstanding record of research publications through internationally respected outlets. Candidates for Assistant Professorship must have a demonstrable capacity to conduct research and publish through internationally respected channels. While candidates must be fluent in English, ability to speak Chinese is a plus.

The selected candidate may assume duty as early as August 2020.

Position and Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP800,800 (approximately USD98,860) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
