The Wang Lab in the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics seeks applicants for a Senior Research Specialist. The rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. We develop new physical and engineering tools to study the behaviors of biomolecules at the single-molecule level (view a recent example). The candidate will participate in the development of a novel single-molecule microscope. We seek a motivated, hands-on and highly organized individual to contribute to the design, construction and testing of the new instrument.

The ideal candidate is one who seeks professional development and is therefore interested in reading the current scientific literature and thinking critically about solving research problems. The role has great potential for the advancement of skills to pursue a research career in either academic or industrial settings.

Salary will include the full benefits package. The position is open and review of applications will begin immediately. The anticipated start-date is Dec. 1st, 2019 or later. This will be a one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Responsibilities

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A Master’s degree in physical sciences, engineering or biology related fields.
  • A strong interest in applying quantitative, physical measurements to biological systems.
  • Proven record of innovative problem solving.
  • Extensive programming experience in Matlab/C/Java/python.
  • Experience in instrument control using Labview/Matlab.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, clearly communicate ideas, and keep an organized and detailed laboratory notebook.
  • Ability to think critically and troubleshoot.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with microscopy/optical instrumentation (e.g. confocal, STORM, STED microscopy…)
  • Basic molecular biology skills.
